When you become parents, and quietly grow apart

There's a new little person you both adore. And somewhere in the night feeds, the broken sleep, and a to-do list that never ends, the two of you slipped to the bottom of it. The love is still there — but lately you feel less like partners and more like roommates trading logistics in the hallway. Small things sting more than they used to. And underneath it all, you miss each other — even when you're in the same room.

I know this season from the inside. For many years I worked as a birth and postpartum doula, in families' homes through those first raw, tender, exhausting weeks. Over and over, I saw how much a new baby asks of a couple — how two people who adore each other can lose their way to one another under all that love and not enough sleep.

Caring for the baby was never quite enough for me — what I really wanted was to care for the relationship holding that baby. So I trained as a CBT relationship and life coach. I don't know new parenthood from a book; I've sat in living rooms at 3 a.m., and I've seen how tender this stretch of life is — and how gently two people can find their way back. My work now is helping couples like you feel close again, talk in a way that actually lands, and remember you're on the same team.
